Samsung Galaxy S7 Leak Points To 5.7-inch Display Option And 4GB RAM

Samsung has a new boss in charge of its mobile division, D.J. Koh, and the pressure's on to turn things around after a series of missteps that led to a changing of the guard. His first real test will be the impending launch of Samsung's Galaxy S7 handset, an as-yet unannounced phone that's rumored to ship with a 5.7-inch display.

Previous rumors pointed to a 5.5-inch display for the Galaxy S7, though based on a screenshot showing the phone's specs, it appears that Samsung plans to roll with a 5.7-inch display instead, at least for one of the models -- there's been chatter that Samsung could release two or even three display options. That brings up several possible scenarios, one of them being a 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and a 5.7-inch Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the screenshot, Samsung will source Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC to power its next-generation flagships as opposed to its own Exynos chips, though Samsung's also been known to use different chipsets in different territories.

Assuming the screenshot is right on the money, the Galaxy S7 will also rock 4GB of RAM, sport a fingerprint sensor, and snap photos with a 12.2-megapixel rear shooter and 5-megapixel front shooter. Considering that Samsung's Galaxy A9 features an 8-megapixel front camera, we're hoping the final version of the Galaxy S7 gets bumped up from 5-megapixels.

Specs are only half the battle. The other challenge Mr. Koh faces is anticipating demand and then executing production accordingly. That's something Samsung's former mobile boss J.K. Shin struggled with, as he failed to anticipate how popular the Galaxy S6 Edge would be. Combined with production woes, there ended up being a shortage, which hurt Samsung's bottom line.
