Wildly Popular Nintendo Miitomo Smartphone App To Socialize U.S. Audience March 31st

Nintendo has been itching for a hit in the gaming space for quite a while, as the Wii U has been somewhat of a disappointment for the gaming giant. However, Nintendo has redeemed itself in the mobile sector with its Miitomo app, which recently launched in its home market of Japan. Miitomo proved to be so popular that it racked up over a million downloads in just three days.

The success of Miitomo was also enough to send Nintendo shares upwards 8 percent last week upon the announcement of the impressive adoption rate. Nintendo shares may see an even bigger uptick later this week, because it’s been announced that the company will launch Miitomo in the United States on March 31st. If Nintendo witnessed one million downloads in just a few days in Japan, we can only imagine what kind of traction Miitomo will gain with smartphone-obsessed Americans get their hands on the mobile social experience.

“With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices,” said Nintendo of America EVP of Sales and Marketing, Scott Moffitt. “Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience.”

If you simply can’t wait to be the first on the block with Miitomo on your phone, you can register for a Nintendo account via miitomo.com right now, and you’ll receive an email as soon as the app is ready to download on Thursday. There’s also an added bonus for those that register for an account prior to March 31st -- you’ll receive free Platinum Points from Nintendo that can be used in the refreshed My Nintendo rewards program.

And in case you were wondering, Miitomo will only be available from the iOS App Store and Google Play when it launches. Windows 10 Mobile and BlackBerry 10 users are left out of the loop for now, although we have higher hopes for the former seeing the light of day rather than the latter.
