Huawei Cruises Long Island With Mate 9 Pro 5.9-inch Dual-Edge Display Android Flagship
The more premium of the two, codenamed “Long Island”, has just been leaked by notorious gadget fiend Evan Blass. The official name of the device is the Mate 9 Pro, and as you can see from this image below, it’s quite a fetching smartphone. It also bares more than a passing resemblance to the Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy Note 7.
Given the angle of the images provided, it’s not clear if the Mate 9 Pro will have a headphone jack. We can, however, clearly see symmetrical speaker grills flanking the central USB-C port. But we hope that the 3.5mm port was simply chopped off from these promo shots by accident.
The Mate 9 Pro features a 5.9-inch QHD (2560x1440) display, 64-bit HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC (octa-core), 4GB RAM, and 64GB to 256GB of internal storage. The Mate 9 will feature a dual-lens, dual-sensor main camera setup, which is similar to the arrangement found on the P9. The Mate 9 Pro will also have support for Google’s Daydream VR functionality (and hence will be compatible with the Daydream View VR Headset) and will come out of the box with Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Mate 9 Pro will be joined by its lesser “Manhattan” Mate 9 sibling, which features a traditional “flat” 5.9-inch FHD (1920x1080) display. It unfortunately will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Nougat.
The Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro are both scheduled to be unveiled on November 3rd in Germany.
