Gears Of War 4 Port For PC To Bring Optimized Platform Features And Benchmarking Tools

Gears of War 4 is already looking like it will be a pretty sweet Xbox One game. PC gamers, however, have a few reasons to get excited about the game as well -- it will boast a number of PC-specific features.

Technical director for The Coalition, Mike Rayner, remarked, “Our focus on PC is to deliver a highly optimized, customizable experience first and foremost”.

Rayner noted as well that support for disabling v-sync has recently come to Universal Windows Platform (UWP) and will be able to offer proper unlocked frame-rate support. The Unreal Engine 4 and the team’s custom modifications make it so that they can take better advantage of multiple CPU cores. This will allow the GPU more room to work its magic with enhanced visual quality or higher frame rates.

What else can gamers expect from the PC version? Any resolution will be supported with a sensible dynamic field of view, including ultra-wide and up to 4K resolution of select texture groups. PC gamers will also be treated to a benchmarking mode, full keyboard/mouse input remapping, and more comprehensive video settings. Gears of War 4 may also potentially come with super-sampling and scaling so that gamers can truly customize their experience.

Rayner remarked, “Today we sit at 28 different settings and we're thinking of ways to add more for people to really have full control. Along with more settings, we're putting extra time into making it clear what impact a setting will have on GPU/CPU/VRAM so there is a clear correlation between a setting change and its performance impact.”

The Gears of War 4 story, which takes place over the course of 24 hours, focuses on the travails of Marcus Fenix’s son, JD Fenix, and a “next generation of Gears heroes.” If you do happen to be a console player *gasp*, you can get your hands on a limited edition Gears of War 4 Xbox One S. Gears of War 4 will be released October 11th and is currently available for pre-order.
