EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SuperSC Gains 4GB Of GDDR5 Memory

In case the brouhaha surrounding the 4GB framebuffer on NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 970 wasn't a strong enough indication, a lot of gamers want a full fast 4GB on their GPUs. Even those opting for more modest cards, it seems, such as the GTX 960.

To give its customers more choice, EVGA has just rolled-out three brand-new GTX 960 models that pack 4GB of fast GDDR5 under-the-hood -- and no, this card doesn't suffer from the same sort of design caveat that the 970 does, so all 4GB is available, and all at the same speed.

All three of EVGA's 4GB GTX 960s feature the same ACX 2.0 cooler, so their differences lay only in the clock speeds. For those wanting to stick to reference, an option is available. But for those who want a bit of a boost, there's the SuperSC (Super Superclocked) edition which adds 152MHz to the core and 164MHz to the boost, and the FTW edition, which applies boosts of 177MHz and 189MHz, respectively.

These cards will raise an obvious question: What good is a 4GB framebuffer on a mainstream GTX card? EVGA's promotional materials reference 4K performance, although it seems highly unlikely that anyone will be going the 960 route if 4K is in the gameplan. Even a single GTX 980 can struggle with today's hottest games at 4K, so I think a much more modest target is 1440p.

Either way, it's great to have an option. Or at least we will once these decide to come into stock.
