Samsung Z2 Becomes First Tizen-Based Smartphone With 4G Capabilities
There was a time when Samsung believed its home brewed Tizen operating system would rise up and usurp Android as the king of mobile, or at least be a competitive force. Things haven't worked out that way, and though Tizen has gone on to fined renewed purpose in things like smart TVs and wearables, it's still being used in smartphones, including the Samsung Z2, the world's first Tizen smartphone with 4G LTE functionality.
It's a significant milestone in Tizen's journey, not because 4G LTE is some new and rare technology—obviously that's not the case—but because of its price point and audience. The Samsung Z2 launched in India today and is intended for users making the leap from a feature phone to a low-cost smartphone, which represents a fast growing market. The asking price is just INR 4,590, or about $68 is U.S. currency.

The Z2 isn't a flagship device by any means. It has a 4-inch WVGA display powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM. The phone also features 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot supporting memory cards up to 128GB, 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, and a 1,500 mAh battery.
Samsung's Z2 will be available in India from August 29, 2016, in gold, black or wine red.
