Samsung Drops Second-Gen 'Galaxy Folder' Flip-Phone Running Android Lollipop
You can't take two steps outside without seeing someone using a smartphone. From texting to selfies, smartphones have become a part of everyday life for millions of people. Be that as it may, there's still a market for flip phones. Yes, flip phones! And a competitive market, at that. Hot off the heels of LG unveiling an Android Lollipop-powered flip phone called "Gentle," Samsung has announced its second generation Galaxy Folder.
Like LG's newest offering, the Galaxy Folder is an Android Lollipop device. It also sports a 3.8-inch touchscreen display with an unspecified resolution (presumably it matches or exceeds the 800x480 resolution of the original Galaxy Folder), 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, and 1,800 mAh battery.
It's tough to get excited about a flip phone these days, though their relatively low costs and ease of use make them candidates in emerging markets and among users who find smartphones too complex. Case in point, up until recently my father was still using a flip phone, and he'd be happy to ditch is iPhone to go back to one.
