OnePlus 2 Flagship Marshmallow Smartphone Falls Permanently To $349

OnePlus doesn't always get things right—some would argue that the company often gets things wrong, at least when it comes to smooth product launches—but it's learning from its mistakes and continues to give fans reasons to root for the company. The latest example is a newly announced price cut for its popular OnePlus 2 handset.

Effectively immediately (and just in time for Valentine's Day, if you're looking for a geek gift idea), the OnePlus 2 is $349, down $40 from its $389 launch price. The new low price is a permanent one, not a temporary sale or promotion. And don't worry if you just bought a OnePlus 2 at its old price—anyone who purchased the OnePlus 2 within the last 15 days will receive a $40 refund.

"As the cost to produce a OnePlus 2 device has never been lower, we believe this is the right time to introduce a new change. We believe great things should be shared," OnePlus stated in a blog post.

"We learned a lot from our first flagship phone. The invite system helped get the OnePlus 2 off the ground, and now thanks to both timing and scale, our operations have sized up to the Goldilocks principle of just right. So, why not let our fans join us in celebrating the fruits of our labor? The OnePlus 2 now has a price modification of $349, forever. If you’ve ever needed to give a friend another reason to join Team OnePlus, here you go," OnePlus added.

The new price applies to the model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. OnePlus also used to sell a version of the OnePlus 2 with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, but it doesn't appear to be an option anymore.

Need a refresher? The OnePlus 2 is a well made device with a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 5MP front camera, 13MP rear camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, fingerprint sensor, capacious 3,300 mAh battery, and a few other features wrapped in Oxygen OS (based on Android).

The OnePlus 2 isn't perfect—it lacks NFC support, wireless charging, and expandable memory, and the battery isn't removable. Nevertheless, it's a pretty good value for the new asking price.
