Microsoft Offering Up To $300 Student Discount On Surface Pro 3 Through September 26th

At some point in the not-too-distant future, Microsoft will release a Surface Pro 4 tablet. In the meantime, Microsoft's been marking down its Surface Pro 3 family, and yet again the tablet line is on sale, this time with some tantalizing savings for students heading back to school.

You might be thinking, "Doesn't Microsoft always give students a 10 percent discount on Surface tablets?" The answer is yes, though student discounts typically only apply to the retail cost. This time around, students can apply a special student discount of up to $150 to the marked down pricing for Surface Pro 3.


What that boils down to is up to $300 off select Surface Pro 3 models. Here's a look at how it shakes out:

• Core i3-4020Y, 4GB RAM, 64GB: $799 - $79.90 = $719.10
• Core i5-4300U, 4GB RAM, 128GB: $999 - $250 = $749
• Core i5-4300U, 8GB RAM, 256GB: $1,299 - $300 = $999
• Core i7-4650U, 8GB RAM, 256GB: $1,549 - $300 = $1,249
• Core i7-4650U, 8GB RAM, 512GB: $1,949 - $300 = $1,649

Arguably the two most interesting deals are the Core i5 models with 8GB and 4GB of RAM, both of which are under a grand after stacking a student discount on top of the sale price. And to sweeten the pot even more, Microsoft will toss in a free sleeve (worth $40) if you make a purchase by October 10 (note that the sale prices are good until September 12, and the special student discount is good until September 26).
