Frustration-Free OnePlus 2 Invite System Goes Live Ahead Of July 27th Reveal

The folks at OnePlus haven't just proven that they're capable of producing a great smartphone, they've proven that they're marketing geniuses. Despite the fact that the OnePlus One was the company's first-ever smartphone, its "Never Settle" tagline and exclusivity made it one hot product. I couldn't believe the number of people I knew that were either offering or looking for invites - it was great to see so much hype around a smartphone not produced by a fruit-inspired company.

Despite the enormous success of the OnePlus One, its invite system left a lot to be desired. Earlier this month, company co-founder Carl Pei admitted that the initial rollout was flawed, largely due to the fact that the company didn't anticipate the huge level of interest in its first phone. So he and his company promised to make the OnePlus 2 launch a lot smoother, and has today detailed how it's going to do that.

Those who OnePlus considers its most "fervent" fans will be treated as priority with this new invite system. This includes those who were early-adopters and are active members of the OnePlus community. For everyone else, the company says that you'll need to "work for it", which seems a little too familiar. "There will be a variety of ways to get invites, you’ll have to work for it in contests and/or other promotions-- but you will receive the invites quickly."

The upside here is that it shouldn't be nearly as complicated to get an invite for the OnePlus 2. Anyone who purchases the phone will have invites to send out, and for the sake of even greater ease, those who don't feel like playing the social media game of stalking the company for random invites can take advantage of a reservation list.

As previously covered, the OnePlus 2 is expected to be a 5.5-inch device boasting a 1440p resolution. Under its hood will be a Snapdragon 810 SoC, 32GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a 3,300mAh battery. Details surrounding the phone's cameras have been all over the place; some say the rear will be 13 megapixel, while others say 16 megapixel. One detail that is agreed-upon is that the front-facing camera will be a standard 5 megapixel.

With promises of initial supply being 30~50x greater than that of the OnePlus One, it'll be interesting to see just how fast these invites really do go out.
