AMD Catalyst 15.10 Beta Supercharges Ashes of the Singularity, Brings Star Wars: Battlefront Fixes

After being poked at for having such staggered driver releases, it appears that AMD is done messing around. A mere two weeks after the company released its 15.9 Catalyst driver, it's hitting us with 15.10. As with the previous driver, this one is also considered a beta.

Given the short period of time between these latest driver releases, 15.10 doesn't bring too much to the table. The lone performance enhancement hits Ashes of the Singularity, a game in which AMD has been shown to offer superior performance over NVIDIA. Given that, it's no surprise that the company's continuing to refine things further.

Beyond that, there are some important bug fixes. If you're trying to play Star Wars Battlefront on a notebook with hybrid graphics, you'll now be able to use the discrete card for the game. Interestingly, another bug fix squashes an issue that prevented a driver from being installed at all. A couple of TDR (timeout) bugs have also been fixed, relating to CyberLink PowerDVD (when connected to a 3D monitor) as well as the Unreal Engine 4 DirectX benchmark.

While not directly related to this release, it's worth pointing out that Ashes of the Singularity will be hitting Steam on October 22 as an early access title. Looking past the fact that this will be, in effect, a beta release, this will become the first DirectX 12 game available for sale. I'm willing to bet that AMD is quite pleased with that, given its performance advantage right now.
