Samsung and Android Ranked Top Mobile Subscriber Market Share

In terms of mobile market share, Samsung and Google continue to be the most potent combination, taking the top spots in handset and smartphone platform market share, respectively.

According to numbers released by comScore, over the time period of August-November 2012, Samsung increased its market share of handsets from 25.7% to 26.9%. Apple boosted its share roughly the same percentage, from 17.1% to 18.5%, while LG saw a dip from 18.2% to 17.5%. Motorola and HTC also both declined slightly during that time period.

Although Samsung and Apple appear to be eating into other competitors’ market share, there remains a reasonable amount of parity among the five manufacturers represented here. However, on the platform side, there’s almost none.

Google’s Android OS outpaces the field by a long shot, with 53.7% of the market compared to second-place iOS’s 35%. (Both platforms nudged upward slightly between August and November). RIM, Microsoft, and Symbian combined only account for 10.8% market share, and all three declined slightly over that three-month period.
