Xiaomi Mi MIX Is A Droolworthy Bezel-Less And Ceramic 6.4-inch Snapdragon 821 Flagship

Don't tell Xiaomi that smartphones must have bezels. If you do, the Chinese phone maker will respond, "Bezels? We ain't got not bezels? We don't need no bezels! I don't have to show you no stinkin' bezels!" For you young folk, that's a reference to a famous quote from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, but back to the point, Xiaomi's Mi Mix smartphone is a bezel-free handset with a killer spec sheet.

The interesting thing here is that the Mi Mix looks like a concept device and is even called a concept phone by Xiaomi, yet it has a release date that's just around the corner (November 4 in China) and a price tag (¥3,499, or about $516 in U.S. currency). By all means, it looks as though XIaomi is constructing the Mi Mix and has every intention of selling it, not just showing it off. Indeed, in describing the Mi Mix as being like something you'd see in a sci-fi flick, Xiamomi notes, "this day will come."


That's just the beginning. A true edge-to-edge display with nary a bezel is a pretty cool feature to set the Mi Mix apart from the competition, but it's far from the only thing. It's also a big handset with a 6.4-inch display powered by Qualcomm's mighty Snapdragon 821 SoC clocked at 2.35GHz, the same as found in Google's new Pixel and Pixel XL handsets.

There's also either 4GB of RAM paired with 128GB of onboard storage or 6GB of RAM paired with 256GB of storage, 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with phase-detect autofocus, and a capacious 4,400 mAh battery. to name some of the amenities.


The overall design is noteworthy too, and not just for the bezel-less display. Xiaomi is 18-karat gold to accent the rims around the camera and fingerprint sensor, the chassis is a full ceramic body, and there are custom round edges for what Xiaomi says offers a more immersive, edgeless viewing experience.

It's a slick looking handset. Here's hoping it not only sees the light of day, but finds its way to U.S. soil as well.
