Toshiba's KIRABook Sports 13-inch 221 ppi Touch Screen, 256GB SSD, Core i7, and Windows 8
Someone over at Toshiba’s PR department is likely getting a stern talking-to right about now; Toshiba posted a press release concerning its new high-end KIRAbook a day early. The release was dated for tomorrow, and now it appears as though they’ve pulled it down. However, Engadget snagged the full text of the release.
In it, Toshiba announced the 13.3-inch KIRAbook ultrabook, and the PixelPure display seems to be the premiere feature. It boasts a native 2560x1440 resolution with 221 ppi, and it’s available in standard and 10-point multitouch versions. The actual screen is made from damage-resistant Corning Concore Glass, and the body of the KIRAbook is pressed magnesium alloy.

Under the hood, the KIRAbook runs on a 3rd generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and has 8GB of 1600MHz RAM and a 256GB SSD. There’s a set of Harmon Kardon stereo speakers built in, too. The chassis also features an AirFlow II thin multi-phase fan cooling system, a stabilizing hinge for the lid, and a honeycomb design to strengthen areas that require fortification (such as the palm rest).
The ultrabook weighs just 2.6 pounds with a thickness of 0.7 inches. Users will get a two-year warranty, phone support, rapid repair service, setup assistant, and free annual tuneups.
You’ll be able to grab your own KIRAbook when it lands in the U.S. on May 12th at a variety of online retailers and directly from Toshiba, with preorders available starting May 3rd. Prices start at $1,599 and scale up to $1,999 MSRP. There are no images of the KIRAbook available yet.
