Toshiba Upgrades 10.1-inch Excite Tablets, Pricing Starts at $299

Give Toshiba credit for aggressively targeting the Android tablet market with what appear to be reasonably priced slates starting at $299. That's the price of the Excite Pure, a refreshed Android slate with a 10.1-inch display (1280x800), NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of DDR3 memory, 16GB of internal storage, 3MP rear-facing camera, stereo speakers, micro HDMI output, micro USB ports, a microSD card slot, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. That's not a bad spec sheet for the money, though if you have a bigger budget, things start to get even more interesting.

For $500, Toshiba's Excite Pro delivers a 10.1-inch PixelPure display with a 2560x1600 resolution, the same as found on most 30-inch computer monitors. According to Toshiba, that's currently the highest resolution offered in the tablet market, which translates into 300 pixels per inch. Other features include an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of DDR3 memory, 32GB of built-in storage, 8MP rear-facing camera, Harman Kardon stereo speakers with DTS Premium Voice Pro, and the same ports and OS as the Excite Pure. It's a bit expensive, but it's also better equipped than the iPad 4 16GB, which sells for the same price.

Toshiba Excite Write

Even higher up on the tablet totem pole is the refreshed Excite Write ($600), another 10.1-inch slate with a 2560x1600 resolution, but with a digitizer display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 2. It features precision TruPen support with 1024 pressure points plus all the same amenities as the Excite Pro.

All three tablets will be available starting June 25, 2013.
