SiliconSystems Intros SiliconDrive III SSD Line
The newly unveiled SiliconDrive III solid-state storage technology platform promises faster read/write speeds along with increased capacities and mechanical scalability, and coincidentally enough, the new family of drives carries that same label. The units act as true drop-in replacements for traditional hard drives, and the family includes 2.5" SATA and PATA devices as well as smaller 1.8" SATA products for use in portable media players and netbooks. The whole line touts read speeds up to 100 megabytes per second (MBps) and write speeds to 80 MBps.
Gary Drossel, vice president of product planning at SiliconSystems, had no issues bragging about his new wares: "SiliconSystems' new SiliconDrive III solid-state drives are ideal for a broad range of data center, industrial and embedded system applications that require an advanced storage technology solution with mechanical scalability ranging from 2.5-inch drive form factors to smaller MiniBlade or CFast form factors. The faster speeds and larger capacities of SiliconDrive III are ideal for high-end Enterprise System OEM requirements, and help enable new multimedia data streaming applications such as IPTV, Video on Demand (VOD) and digital video surveillance appliances that require a high level of performance and reliability where failure is not an option."
The SiliconDrive III line will be available in Q2 of this year in capacities up to 120GB, though pricing has yet to be revealed.
