Lick My Lead! Croteam Announces Serious Sam VR Available On Steam Early Access Oct. 17th
It's been known since E3 that Croteam and Devolver Digital were working on a version of Serious Sam for virtual
reality, but at the time there wasn't a specific release date. Now there is—Croteam announced that Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is headed to Steam Early Access on October 17 for $40. The plan is to keep it there for around six months before releasing the full version.
You'll need an HTC Vive headset to play the title, along with hand controllers. Other system requirements include an Intel Core i5-4590 processor or equivalent, AMD Radeon R9 290 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card, 6GB of RAM, and 10GB of storage space.
In Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope you play as Sam "Serious" Stone. You're trying to save the galaxy as the first Mental War wages on. Earth's defense forces are crumbling as hordes of Mental attack, but you'll have access to guns—lots of guns, Croteam says—including the quad-rocket launcher and the mini-gun. As with previous Serious Sam games, it's all about the unapologetic carnage.
"Saving the universe can be a daunting and tedious task, but here's Sam to save the day; it's more fun when he does it, the way he does it. It's (mostly) by shooting aliens in the face," Croteam says.
What's different about Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope compared to previous titles is that it's a more stationary experience rather than an open world for you to run around in. Whether or not Serious Sam fans are accepting of that approach remains to be seen, but we'll find out soon enough.
