SanDisk Launches Fastest 32GB SDHC Card
SanDisk is claiming to have announced the world’s fastest 32GB SDHC flash memory card with a Class 10 performance rating. This new card is ideal for HD video and high-end cameras such as the latest DSLRs that can capture HD video as well as still images. The cards are also compatible with the new MacBook Pro line with SD slots.
The 32GB SanDisk Extreme SDHC card supports read and write speeds up to 30MBps. These speeds help support the overall system of a camera while taking pictures in rapid succession. If a user is shooting with a slow card, then the camera’s burst mode may pause unexpectedly so the card can catch up to the camera. The SanDisk Extreme SDHC card helps to eliminate this problem by offering the maximum data transfer rates available today.
The 32GB SanDisk Extreme SDHC card meets the SD Association’s new Class 10 specification. While card write speeds measure maximum performance, class ratings measure the minimum sustained speed that is required to record an even rate of video onto the card. Class 10 cards are designed for a minimum sustained transfer rate of 10MB/s.
The Class 10 specification exceeds the requirement for today’s high definition (AVCHD) video recording. The card can support a sustained write speed that is fast enough to store 160 minutes of full HD 1920x1080 pixels at a data transfer rate of 24Mb/s.
SanDisk also points out that today’s high-megapixel DSLRs generate massive still images, especially when a photographer is shooting in RAW format. With a high capacity card such as the new 32GB SanDisk Extreme SDHC, the company says users can store up to 2500 RAW images (approximate, based on 10MB per RAW file).
SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards will operate at temperatures ranging from minus 13 F (minus 25 C) to 185 F (85 C). The cards are compatible with any camera, card reader, and other devices that support SDHC cards. SanDisk recommends its new ImageMate Multi-Card USB 2.0 reader/writer for fast transfer of images and video to a computer at rates of up to 30MB/s.
The SanDisk Extreme SDHC 32GB cards will be available in August. SanDisk also plans to upgrade its current 4, 8, and 16GB capacity SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards from Class 6 to Class 10 in August.
