SanDisk Enters Storage Array Market With InfiniFlash Series, Boasts Up To 512TB Capacity
Can big data companies really budget for an all-flash memory storage scheme? SanDisk is hoping to make it possible with its new InfiniFlash storage system that delivers massive capacity, extreme performance, and rock solid reliability to big data and hyperscale workloads while reducing data center complexity and costs.
InfiniFlash is a next-generation storage solution comprised entirely of Flash memory. It's available in three configurations -- IF100, IF500, and IF700 -- and offers five times the density, 50 times the performance, and four times the reliability compared to traditional hard disk drive arrays, all while consuming 80 percent less power, according to SanDisk.
What about cost? SanDisk claims "breakthrough pricing" for its platform with costs that start at less than $1 per gigabyte, which applies to the rack-mountable IF100. Final pricing will depend on the buyer and how many units are being purchased, but the bottom line is, SanDisk is pitching this as an affordable solution. Toss software into the mix with the hardware and costs are still under $2 per gigabyte, and that's without requiring compression or de-duplication technologies.

The InfiniFlash system supports up to 512TB of flash storage in a 3U form factor, which breaks down to 64 flash storage cards at 8TB each. Up to eight servers can be attached to it. On the performance side, the system boasts up to 1 million IOPS and less than 1ms of latency.
