To celebrate the occasion, Samsung is holding "S Carpet" events at its flagship stores around the world.

This is a big moment for Samsung. After see profits dip and being stuck with unsold Galaxy S5 inventory last year, the company's brass decided it was time to shake things up. Several high level executives received pink slips as part of a restructuring effort, though Samsung's mobile boss, J.K. Shin, was spared the axe and given an opportunity to lead the turnaround, a decision that was made based on his past success.

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are the result of all that, and based on early excitement, pre-order numbers, and mostly positive reviews, expectations are high. Consumers seem especially intrigued with the Galaxy S6 Edge, which boasts a display that wraps around both edges.

If you pre-ordered either handset, you should receive it today, depending on your wireless carrier. For everyone else, you'll have your choice of nine different SKUs, based on color options and internal storage capacity. One thing to bear in mind is that neither phone sports a microSD card slot, so minus what content you move to the cloud, you're stuck with what you get.
