Samsung Shipping 840 Series SSDs with Free Copy of Assassin's Creed III
Samsung today announced that its scintillating 840 Series solid state drives (SSDs) are now available to purchase, but that's not all. To sweeten the pot, select 840 Pro SSDs come with a free copy of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III in the form of a download code that's good for snagging the full version. The game bundle applies to 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB capacities (64GB capacity is excluded).
"Our new 840 Pro SSDs allow gamers to experience the ultimate in gaming performance by booting their systems quickly, and loading games and other apps in a flash," said Mike Abary, Senior Vice President, Consumer Business Division IT Product Marketing, Samsung Electronics America. Samsung's 840 Pro SSDs feature a SATA 6Gbps interface, 500Mbps Toggle DDR2 flash memory, AES 256-bit encryption, and new triple-core MDX controllers. All combined, Samsung claims it adds up to sequential read speeds of up to 540MB/s, sequential write speeds of up to 520MB/s, and up to 100,000 IOPS (random reads).
The non-Pro models aren't far behind, at least in terms of read speeds, boasting sequential read and write performance of up to 530MB/s and 330MB/s, respectively, along with up to 97,000 IOPS (random reads).
As for pricing, the 840 Pro drives carry MSRPs of $100 for the 64GB model, $150 for 128GB, $270 for 256GB, and $700 for 512GB. The non-Pro models are priced at $110 for 120GB, $200 for 250GB, and $550 for 500GB. An upgrade kit that consists of an 3.5-inch mounting bracket and cables (USB and SATA) is available for the non-Pro models and adds $20 to the cost.
