Samsung Reducing Reliance on Qualcomm With its Own Processors
Despite many Samsung devices packing Qualcomm processors, Samsung’s own Exynos line of chips underpin a few of its products, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. It appears now that Samsung is betting on itself by using more (and better) Exynos processors at the expense of Qualcomm’s offerings.
The Korea Times reports that Samsung will be using a quad-core Exynos chip with LTE and W-CDMA for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III, and beyond.

The article cited an unnamed Samsung executive as saying, “`Samsung has a stronger intent to lower its dependence on Qualcomm and our technicians believe that we have made significant progress in producing logic-based chips for high-end devices, combined logic and memory chips for graphic controllers and core communication chips for Internet-enabled consumer devices.”

Samsung is actively developing Exynos and will be moving from a 45nm process to a smaller and more power efficient 32nm process; the new process will first appear in the Galaxy S III.
Qualcomm can’t be pleased about this development; Samsung is a huge customer, and the latter company’s high end phones and tablets are fine devices that will likely to continue to gain market share.
