Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition Heads To Best Buy Retail Stores On Friday

Best Buy last month gave Samsung's Gear VR Innovator Edition headset a test run by demonstrating the wearable in 100 of its locations scattered throughout the United States, giving customers an opportunity to experience what most have only read about. Apparently pleased with the response, Best Buy is getting ready to sell the headset in its stores tomorrow, March 27.

This will be the first time that Samsung's Gear VR Innovator Edition will be made available to purchase in physical store locations. Up until now, it's only been available online -- Best Buy has a product listing on its website, and of course, and of course Samsung is selling the device direct to consumers. It's $200 at both portals and will likely cost the same in-store.

Not all Best Buy locations will carry the Gear VR headset. It will reportedly be offered at "more than 100 Best Buy locations" beginning tomorrow, followed by "additional locations rolling out in-store device availability throughout the year." If your local Best Buy store doesn't end up getting it tomorrow, pester a manager.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition has been fairly well received by reviewers. There is a caveat to using it, however -- it requires a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet. It's not compatible with any other phone or phablet, including Samsung's own Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge. That said, some users have managed to get it to work with the Galaxy Note Edge, though it's not officially supported nor is it advisable.
