Samsung Galaxy S II Strikes T-Mobile Next Week, 1.5GHz Processor Confirmed

T-Mobile took advantage of the GigaOm Mobilize 2011 event today to unveil its two fastest smartphones to date: the HTC Amaze 4G and Samsung Galaxy S II. Both will take full advantage of T-Mobile's 4G network, and both come to the mobile party wielding a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm.

"These new products unlock the full potential of our faster 4G network and deliver the best experience yet for watching video, surfing the Web, and creating and sharing content on the go," said Cole Brodman, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA. "A 4G connection delivers a much improved experience, which entices consumers to do more with the devices they carry. We’ve seen that first hand; customers with 4G devices on our network consume roughly three times as much data compared as those with 3G devices. Smartphone buyers are increasingly looking for built-in 4G capability, and we’re offering what we believe is the best 4G product portfolio in the industry."

Samsung has already sold 10 million Galaxy S II devices around the world since it launched five months ago, with half of those sales occurring in the past eight weeks. In addition to a speedy 1.5GHz dual-core processor, the Galaxy S II also comes with a 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen with a 480x800 resolution, 16GB of internal storage (expandable to 48GB via microSD card slot), 1GB RAM, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, and other odds and ends.

The HTC Amaze 4G and Samsung Galaxy S II will be listed for pre-sale online at T-Mobile on October 10, and in stores for purchase on October 12. T-Mobile is pricing the Amaze 4G at $260 (after a $50 mail-in-rebate card) with a two-year service agreement and qualifying data plan. The Galaxy S II will run $230 with the same caveats.
