NVIDIA Demos New 'PhysX Flex' Technology With Fluid And Smoke Effects

At this point, it seems inevitable that whenever NVIDIA reveals a new GeForce series, the company will have a number of cool tech demos on-hand to help sell us on what it can do, and tease us on what's coming to gaming. Unfortunately, many of these tech demos remain internal at NVIDIA, but there is the odd one that the company packages up and lets loose. One example is the Apollo 11 demo that we talked about a couple of months ago, one that takes great advantage of Voxel Global Illumination (VXGI).

Well, I hope that the Apollo 11 demo satiates your appetite, because the following preview of NVIDIA's PhysX FleX features are exclusive to the following video. It's really too bad, because some of individual demos would be a lot of fun to play with, something I'm sure you'll be able to agree with me on after viewing.

Most of what's being shown-off here revolves around fluids and smoke - the latter of which hasn't been tackled that much in the past. A lot of what you'll see with the fluids has been seen before, but there are some new twists, such as fluid-fluid interaction and also a cool wind tunnel test.

NVIDIA PhysX FleX Smoke

At the moment, NVIDIA's PhysX FleX is in closed beta, so there's no telling when we'll see some of these effects in our games. Given NVIDIA's tight relationship with Ubisoft, and the fact that Assassin's Creed Unity, The Crew and Far Cry 4 all take advantage of NVIDIA's GameWorks technologies, I think it's a safe bet that we'll see some of these FleX features used in Ubisoft's titles next fall.

What could appease us until then? The demos for our use, of course. Pretty please, NVIDIA?
