Nexus S Now Available at Best Buy

Coming out just in time for the holidays, Google's Nexus S smartphone is now available for purchase at Best Buy. In case you're wondering what the big deal here is, the Nexus S is the first smartphone to ship with Android 2.3, otherwise known as Gingerbread. And as a Google-branded phone, there isn't any funky custom UI marring the Android experience.

The phone is available for $200 so long as you pony up for a 2-year service agreement with T-Mobile, otherwise it runs $530 contract-free. It comes equipped with an 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, 16GB of internal storage, both front and rear facing cameras, a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, haptic feedback vibration, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, microUSB 2.0 port, and a whole bunch more (full tech specs here).

Any fears that the Nexus S will suffer the same short-lived fate as the Nexus One should be shelved. The Nexus One may have been more of an experiment than anything else, as Google only offered the device through its website, whereas the sexier Nexus S will be sold through both Best Buy and T-Mobile stores. We don't see it dethroning the iPhone, or even the Galaxy S line, but it is a promising alternative for those tied to T-Mobile.
