Netgear's Cable Modem Routers Will Free You From Rental Fees

Netgear is determined to save you a bit of jingle each month by launching a pair of new cable modem router devices: N600 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router (C3700) and N300 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router (C3000). Both devices combine the functionality of a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem with a wireless router, meaning you can serve up Internet connectivity throughout your home and avoid paying your ISP cable modem rental fees, which can add up over time.

"Negear believes in offering a broad range of technology options for your home network so you can choose the one that best suits your needs," said Sandeep Harpalani, Netgear's director of product marketing for Retail Networking Products. "To that end, we are expanding our portfolio of cable products to meet the requirements of the fast-growing cable Internet market. Our new cable modem routers integrate the latest DOCSIS 3.0 cable technology with the superior ease-of-use capabilities that you’ve come to expect in Netgear routers, thanks to the Netgear genie app. By owning one of our new cable modem routers, you have an easy option for avoiding your cable provider’s monthly modem leasing fee."

Both modems support eight download and four upload channels simultaneously (8x4). The N300 (C3000) also boasts 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with download speeds of up to 300Mbps and two Gigabit Ethernet ports, while the N600 (C3700) offers dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity with download speeds of up to 300Mbps on each of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, also with two Gigabit Ethernet ports.

These are nifty devices, though if you're more interested in 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity, Netgear says to hang tight. The company is planning to release its AC1750 Wi-Fi Cable Modem Router  (C6300) in the second quarter for $220. It will have support for 16 download and 4 upload channels simultaneously, download speeds of up to 450Mbps in 802.11n mode and up to 1300Mbps in 802.11ac mode, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports.
