‘Need for Speed’ Heads To PC Garage For Modifications, Will Emerge In Spring 2016

The last thing the PC gaming industry needs right now is for another high profile game to debut with performance hampering bugs or other issues that detract from the experience. With that in mind, developer Ghost said it's pushing the release date for the PC version of Need for Speed to Spring 2016 so that it can tweak a few things.

Chief among them is an unlocked frame rate, something that Ghost says PC gamers made clear "is a massive priority" (and Ghost fully agrees). Ghost will also use the additional time to improve the game's graphics and code the same content updates that will have already been available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Need for Speed

The delay doesn't affect either console version -- Need for Speed will release to PS4 and Xbox One on November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide as originally planned. However, there's still some work on the server side of things that needs to be done.

"Since this is a connected game, server stability is at the forefront of discussion, and rightfully so. We will be undertaking a closed beta on PS4 and Xbox One in the coming weeks to help us test our server infrastructure to help prepare for launch," Ghost said. "We’re taking great steps to ensure that your experience is not compromised, including having dedicated servers to make host migration a thing of the past."

It's a bummer that Ghost won't have the PC version ready until next year and we hope this doesn't become a trend. At the same time, we understand the decision and would rather Ghost release a polished game than either suffer through a shoddy port or have the title yanked from store shelves after the fact, just like WB Games had to do with Batman: Arkham Knight.
