MSI Announces Newly Designed C Series Notebooks

MSI claims it was inspired by top-of-the-line luxury sedans when redesigning the newest additions to its C-Series of notebooks, the silver CX640-071US and black CR640-035US. Both are 15.6-inch notebooks built around Intel's Core i3 2310M processor, with the former boasting Nvidia's GeForce GT 520M graphics with Optimus technology and the latter sporting Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Other than the graphics chip, both setups come with similar components, including 4GB of DDR3 memory, 500GB SATA hard drive, DVD burner, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, 7-in-1 media card reader, 1.3MP webcam, a pair of USB 2.0 ports, another pair of USB 3.0 ports, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and a 6-cell battery.

"We listen very carefully to our customers, and we know that anticipating and addressing their needs is critical to success in the PC industry," noted Andy Tung, vice president of sales for MSI US. "The CX640 and CR640 models deliver the standard elements people look for in a PC– performance, price, features and design – however we also go a step further. These units incorporate features that respond to people's real-life concerns: data backup, hard drive protection, etc. And we believe consumers will respond to this consideration."

Those additional features Tung alludes to include one-touch backup and restore with MSI's Time Stamp technology, extra hard drive protection by changing the position of the C-Series HDD to the middle of the chassis and surrounding it in a unique housing MSI says helps protect your data from the occasional drop or shock, automatic backlight adjustment, the above mentioned USB 3.0 ports, and Fast Boot technology that MSI claims results in the units powering up two times as fast as traditional notebooks.

The CX640 retails for $680 and the CR640 goes for $630.
