Lenovo Intros New IDEA-Branded PC Lineup, Reveals Skylight Smartbook
The IdeaCentre A300 is the industry's thinnest all-in-one PC, measuring just 18.5mm thick and boasting an expansive 21.5" LED-backlit LCD panel. It runs Windows 7 and features an array of Core 2 Duo CPUs, an Intel X4500MHD integrated graphics set, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, stereo speakers, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, 8-in-1 card reader, FireWire, 4 USB 2.0 ports, a webcam, a built-in TV tuner, bundled BT keyboard/mouse and a total weight of 20.94lbs.
Moving over to the notebook space is the all new IdeaPad S10-3t and S10-3. The former is the industry’s first convertible netbook tablet to feature a capacitive multitouch screen (meaning finger tip touch instead of pressure touch), while the S10-3 -- a refresh to Lenovo’s popular S10-2 model -- is equipped with multitouch. Other key features of these PCs include DirectShare to quickly and easily synchronize files with another laptop without connecting to the Internet, Maplife location-based mapping software, and Quick Start 2.0 with ‘instant on’ function to access a range of applications and the Web without starting Windows. As for specs, you're looking at an Intel Atom N470 CPU, Windows 7 Home Basic, a 10.1" LED display, GMA 3150 graphics, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 320GB of hard drive space, three USB 2.0 ports, a webcam, VGA output and the usual assortment of ports.
Potentially the biggest Lenovo news is the Skylight. The cleverly named device is the company's first smartbook, and it's designed to always be connected--regardless of whether a Wi-Fi hotspot is nearby or not. Many have wondered whether smartbooks have a purpose in this world of netbooks and smartphones, and while obviously only time (and the market reaction) will tell, this device definitely looks slick. The Skylight ships with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and features built-in Wi-Fi, 3G (via AT&T), a full-size keyboard/touchpad, a 10.6" display a robust web browser. It's based on a Linux operating system (tweaked for easy use, obviously), "all day" battery life (meaning 10 hours) and a total weight of around 2lbs. It will be available in the US this April for $499, while other nations should receive it later in the year. The full releases for all of these machines are below.
