James Bond Day Declared For October 5th, 50 Years of 007
James Bond, one of the most popular movie characters of all time and the longest running film franchise to date, is about to celebrate 50 years of international espionage and promiscuity, of playing with all sorts of cool gadgets and escaping imminent death, and of enjoying drinks shaken, not stirred. Deservedly so, 007 backers have announced that October 5, 2012 will be Global James Bond Day, featuring a day-long series of events for Bond fans around the world.
Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment are jointly sponsoring the event, which will include a new feature documentary, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007.

There will be an online charity auction in which movie buffs will have a chance to acquire "a piece of Bond memorabilia direct from the archives of EON Productions as well as donations from the Bond cast," according to auction house Christie's. Forty lots of swag will be auctioned off from September 28th to October 8, along with 10 more lots on an invitation-only basis on October 5.
Perhaps best of all is the release of Bond 50, a complete collection of 007's 22 films to date on Blu-ray (not including Skyfall, the 23rd film releasing to theaters on November 9), along with a limited edition hardcover book. The set carries a hefty MSRP of $300, though it's up for pre-order on Amazon for $185 currently.
