Instagram Creates Perfect Clone Of Snapchat’s Ephemeral ‘Stories’ Feature

Have you ever wished that Instagram was more like Snapchat? Instagram heard your deepest, darkest desire and has introduced “Stories”. This feature, “let’s you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile.”

Instagram remarked, “Instagram has always been a place to share the moments you want to remember. Now you can share your highlights and everything in between, too.”

How does Stories work? Instagram will form essentially a slideshow of the photos and videos a user shares throughout the day. Users will be able to add text and drawings, but the Story will disappear after twenty-four hours and will not appear on an user’s profile grid or feed. Sound familiar? Stories follow the privacy settings of the user’s account, and if a user has a private profile, only their followers will be able to see them. Users can even specifically hide their story from someone and check out who has seen their photos and videos.

How do you see other Instagramers Stories? Stories from people the user’s follow will appear on the top of their feed, and their profile picture will have a colorful ring around it. Navigation is easy by tapping to go back and forward or swiping to jump to another person’s story. If a user wants to comment on someone’s story, they will send a private message to that person through Instagram Direct. There are no public comments through the Stories feature.

Instagram has also recently started to crack down on trolls. Accounts with high volume comment threads are being given the option to moderate their own comments instead of having to go through the process of reporting commenters to Instagram. It is rumored that pop singer Taylor Swift may have used them during her online feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally in the next few weeks. It will be available on iOS and Android.
