Hands-On With Lenovo’s ThinkPad Helix, ThinkPad Tablet 2 and ThinkVision Monitor

We had a chance to stop by Lenovo’s suite today at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, to check out some of the latest and greatest offerings from the company. First up is the new Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2. This tablet runs on Windows 8 Pro and features a 10.1-inch multi-touch HD display. Lenovo claims this is the lightest Windows 8 tablet on the market with a starting weight of 1.25 pounds. A dock is available for this tablet that offers port replication. On the dock, you’ll get HDMI out, LAN, speaker, power, and USB ports. A Bluetooth keyboard stand is also available for this tablet.

Next up is the ThinkPad X1 Carbon ultrabook that has the footprint and weight of a 13-inch notebook but features a 14-inch screen. We reviewed this beauty earlier this year, but this new version now features Windows 8 along with multi-gesture capacitive touchscreen capabilities. It’s a little hard to see in the video, but the anti-glare screen on the X1 Carbon really does make a difference in comparison to other systems we’ve seen.

We also got a chance to see the ThinkPad Helix. This machine gives you the best of a full Windows 8 notebook as well as a Windows 8 tablet.

The ThinkPad Helix features an 11.6-inch, 10-point multi-touchscreen panel as well as pen input capabilities and a full-sized keyboard experience. All of the functionality of this machine is found in the lid, which enables you to disconnect the display from the keyboard to use the machine as a tablet. You can also flip the display for additional use scenarios.

Lenovo also showed us their new ThinkVision LT1423p Touch Mobile Monitor. This monitor gives traveling professionals a second screen as well as touch capabilities, regardless of whether your PC offers touch or not. The touch mobile monitor will be available in both a wired and a wireless version.
