Former Microsoft VP and Others Presumed Dead Following Connecticut Plane Crash

Following a crash of his small plane into a house in a Connecticut neighborhood earlier today, former Microsoft executive Bill Henningsgaard, his 17-year-old son, and two young children inside the impacted house are all believed to be dead.

There's thus far been no confirmation as to the cause of the crash, but authorities don't believe more than 2 people were on-board the aircraft. Henningsgaard and his son were flying back from a trip to scout out potential colleges for the young man.

The accident occurred as the plane was approaching southern Connecticut's Tweed New Haven airport. Wind and other weather information at the time of the crash hasn't yet been made available.

Henningsgaard had worked at Microsoft between 1988 - 2002, before making the decision to retire to focus on philanthropy. Social Venture Partners, an organization that Henningsgaard worked with, posted a note on its website acknowledging his passing:

"Many of you know first-hand how the extraordinary and visionary leadership of Bill Henningsgaard was visible all over this community. He worked tirelessly to build partnerships and facilitate efforts that put us on the path of engaging the community to actively support every child, step by step, from cradle to career. Bill walked the talk to make our community stronger."
