Flashy HIS 7970 Setup Breaks 3DMark Vantage World Record
J. Lin used a sophisticated LN2 cooling setup to chill the cards and overclock them to 1480/1910MHz, up from the stock clocks of 925/1375MHz. He was also aided by an Intel Core i7 3960X processor overclocked to 5.6GHz, 8GB of Viper Xtreme Division 4 DDR3 memory, 120GB Corsair Force SSD, 1,200 watt High Current Pro power supply, and an Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard.
That end result of all that overclocked hardware is a new 3DMark Vantage record of 84,669 marks.
"Besides the sophisticated overclocking equipment, it was the sleek and sophisticated design and vivid LED lighting of the system that captured the attention of industry experts," HIS said in a statement. " The System uses green as its main color, spiced with blue LED light giving it a perfect blend of Extreme OC and Lan Party elements."
To put that score in perspective, we benchmarked AVADirect's X79 Gaming PC with three GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards at 67,762 in 3DMark Vantage, and Maingear's SHIFT SS X79 rig with three Radeon HD 7970 cards at 61,900 marks.
