Dell Updates Precision Mobile Workstations With Skylake Processors And InfinityEdge Displays
Dell is rolling out a new new lineup of Precision Mobile Workstations, and the company is taking full advantage of all latest technology that Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA has to offer including Skylake-based Core and Xeon processors and high end FirePro and Quadro graphics options. The company has also constructed the devices out of aluminum and carbon fiber to make them both lightweight and thin, while reaming robust enough to take a beating when out in the field.
Starting off at the bottom, we have the Precision 15 3000 Series, which is available with a Core i5-6300HQ at the low-end and tops out at a Xeon E3-1505M v5 with the option to install up to 32GB of ECC memory. Customers can choose from two integrated Intel graphics options (HD Graphics 530, HD Graphics P530) or an AMD FirePro W5130M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory. The 15.6-inch display can be had in 1366x768 and 1920x1080 resolutions (the latter of which is offered in touch and non-touch versions).
Dell Precision 15 7000 Mobile Workstation
Given that this is a business-oriented machine, Dell offers a number of HDD and M.2 SSD solutions along with Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11ac radios. And if you need internet connectivity while on the road, you can equip your notebook with a Dell Wireless DW5811e Gobi LTE Mobile Broadband Card.
The Precision 15 5000 Series one-ups its lessor brother by offering an optional UltraSharp PremierColor InfinityEdge display. Customers can choose from either Full HD or 4K UHD (3840x2160) displays, which are powered by either an Intel Pro Graphics 530, P530 or NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics card (with 2GB GDDR5 memory). The Precision 15 5000 series can be equipped with one of three Intel processors: a Core i5-6300HQ, Core i7-6820HQ or a Xeon E3-1505M v5. A maximum of 16GB of RAM can be installed into the chassis and its storage options largely mirror that of the Precision 15 3000 (although interestingly enough, WWAN is not available here).
The Precision 15 7000 Series is yet another rung higher on the mobile workstation ladder, bringing with it your choice of three Core processors and four Xeon processors. Up to 64GB of DDR4 memory is supported via 4 DIMM slots and up to a 15.6-inch UltraSharp UHD IPS display is offered. Dell also provides a wealth of graphics card options to appease customers. At the low-end, you’ll find Intel HD Graphics 530/P530, but you can upgrade to NVIDIA Quadro power (M1000M w/2GB, M2000M w/4GB) or an AMD FirePro W5170M with 2GB RAM.
Dell Precision 17 7000 Series
At the top of the totem pole is the Precision 17 7000 Series which is Dell’s “Most powerful workstation ever.” The Precision 17 7000 largely accepts the same processors as the smaller Precision 15 7000 and also accommodates up to 64GB of RAM. However, its larger chassis allows it to fit up to a 17.3-inch UltraSharp UHD IGZO display and up to an NVIDIA Quadro M5000M with 8GB of GDDR5 memory or up to an AMD FirePro W7170M with 4GB GDDR5 memory.

The Dell Precision 15 3000, Precision 15 5000, Precision 15 7000, and Precision 17 7000 start at $999, $1,399, $1,199, and $1,699 respectively.
