DDR2 Prices Going Up

DigiTimes is reporting that DDR2 contract prices have soared a painful 18% since the second half of January. Amidst tight capacity, major memory vendors are free to play with pricing. Unfortunately, with Intel already in the DDR2 camp and AMD looking to join that group shortly it appears as though memory prices could be a sore spot for consumers in the coming months. Let's hope that memory module vendors take it easy on us and don't pass these price hikes over in their entirety.

Hynix raised its quotes 5-10% while Samsung, which did not disclose the price increase, stated that its price hike was "significant", according to company officials as cited by a recent Bloomberg report.
