Remember BDXL? That's the format that the Blu-ray Disc Association was trumpeting during this year's Computex trade show, though 3D Blu-ray seems to have stolen the spotlight since. We doubt that it'll remain that way for too long, though. With multi-media swelling larger and 1080p content become more pervasive, there's a growing need for more storage. Changing formats entirely is usually too much of a system shock for consumers, so the BDA is trying to squeeze more onto less, so to speak.
BDXL is a multi-layer recordable Blu-ray format with up to 128GB of capacity, and while it's not on the market yet, companies are racing to get this type of media out to those who are already running out of space. The software outfit has this week release Power2Go 7, which is recognized as the first BDXL burning software to be announced. With this new software, users will be able to turn up to four layers of data totaling 128GB onto a single Blu-ray Disc. Support for BDXL means users of CyberLink’s media burning software, Power2Go 7, are now able to burn up to 4 layers of data totaling 128GB on a single Blu-ray Disc, opening up exciting new content storage and archiving possibilities.
