Core 2 Extreme X6800 Review

GamePC has a review on-line today of Intel's current flagship Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor. As you probably expect by now, the X6800 outperformed every other processor they tested. What's more interesting than the performance results, however, was the overclocking test. GamePC used a water-cooling kit to take a retail X6800 up over 3.8GHz.  By air-cooling our early sample, we hit almost 3.6GHz in our initial look at the CPU.

"Today at the GamePC Labs, we've completed our look at the Core 2 product line from Intel by checking out the Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor. We've received final, retail boxed units of these ultra-high-end chips, so of course we've fired them up and benchmarked them at stock speeds and heavily overclocked speeds. We've also checked out power consumption levels and have provided information on Intel's new stock cooling unit."
