Averatec Rivals MacBook Air, MSI X-Slim With N3400 Ultraportable

TriGem USA, the parent company responsible for the Averatec notebook line, has really been on a hot streak of late. After announcing two new all-in-one PCs over the past two months, the outfit is now setting its sights on MSI's X-Slim, Apple's MacBook Air and Asus' Seashell families. The sleek, all-aluminum 13" N3400 was introduced today, and while Averatec isn't nearly as big in the US as HP, Dell or Gateway, we can still see quite a few notebook shoppers giving this one some consideration.

The ultra-slim laptop was designed to fit the needs of business travelers and students alike, and being one of the thinnest and lightest notebooks on the market, it's easy to understand why. The machine packs a greater punch than your average netbook, with a 2.16GHz Intel dual-core processor, a 250GB hard drive, 3GB of RAM, an 8x SuperMulti DVD writer, 802.11n Wi-Fi and a Gigabit Ethernet port. There's also Bluetooth, Windows Vista Home Premium and a 13.3" WXGA panel, not to mention three USB 2.0 ports, a multi-format card reader, Intel's GMA X4500HD graphics and a 1.3MP webcam with micrphone. All told, the unit weighs just 3.8 pounds and costs just $799; it's available now for those scouting a new ultraportable.
