Asus Intros Potent G Series Power Supplies
Need a beefy power supply for your next DIY rig? No, we mean seriously
beefy. If you're still adamant that you're fine with blasting your
energy bill sky high for the sake of high frame rates, have a look at
Asus' latest PSUs. The G Series lineup, which is currently comprised of
a 1000-watt and 850-watt version, is obviously aimed at power-hungry
machines that are utilizing multiple GPUs, a number of hard drives and
possibly even a whole gaggle of fans.
The G-1000HA (1000W) and G-850HA (850W) both sport 80 PLUS (up to 86% power efficiency) certification and also include an active PFC function, which helps to improve voltage stability and delivers environmentally friendly power with a high power factor (PF) of up to 99%. The 13.5cm fan and cable sleeves allow for some serious airflow, though we wouldn't suspect this PSU to hum along at near-silent levels. Furthermore, the G Series is Intel ATX12V Version 2.31 compliant, and provides 5 truly dedicated 12V rails to deliver reliable voltage output to delicate components. Both devices support Core 2 Duo and quad-core CPUs, and considering that many buyers will obviously be running SLI / CrossFireX graphics setups, it provides 6+2-pin PCI-Express 2.0 connectors. Finally, gamers can enjoy rich expandability options with 8 SATA, 6/4 peripheral, 2 FDD, 6/4 PCI-E and 1 EPS connectors, though Asus hasn't told us how much each will cost.
