Asus Eee PC M101MT Netbook/Tablet To Ship Next Month For $499

Tablet PCs may be all the rage right now, but there's still the question of how many people actually want to use a keyboard-less slate. We're guessing that the novelty may wear off, and that most folks will end up yearning for an actual keyboard to bang on. For that reason, we think there is a lot of attractiveness in something like the 10.1" Eee PC T101MT, which acts like a tablet if you'd like, but flips around and becomes a netbook when you need a full gamut of keys.

The machine was introduced a couple of months ago, but it has since been lost under the iPad and Tegra 2 news that has been seeping from every corner. Asus has equipped this with a 1024x600 panel (multi-touch), Windows 7 Home Premium and plenty of other extras, and now we know that it will ship next month. That's a pretty quick turnaround for a notebook that first saw daylight at CES, and we're hearing that it will be available in the U.S. for $499. That's a pretty competitive price point; the iPad will cost the same, yet it won't come with a keyboard. This machine also has a full operating system compared to the iPad's limited iPhone OS. The value proposition seems pretty clear to us, but we'll let the sales figures speak for themselves when they come out in just a few months.
