Apple Updates iMac Line With Core i3, HDD + SSD Options

While the recent talk surrounding Apple has been focused on the iPhone 4 and its well documented reception troubles, the company is today focusing on bigger and brighter things. Namely, new hardware. The consumer-centric iMac line is seeing its first major update since late last year, and while it's not a complete design overhaul, the internals are definitely being revised.

There are still just two primary sizes: 21.5" and 27". Both of these utilize glossy IPS panels, with the former having a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display and the latter having a 2,560 x 1,440 display. Design-wise, the exteriors are staying the same, but Apple now offers a lower-end option with a Core i3 CPU. That means that Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 are all represented here across the line, with a quad-core 2.93GHz Core i7 being the fastest and most expensive CPU option.

The new iMac line starts at $1199, and the entire family is also being treated to new ATI Radeon HD GPUs. The line has 1333MHz memory, 178-degree viewing angles, an SD/SDXC card slot and for the first time, an option to have a hard drive and an SSD running in the same iMac (so long as you spring for the 27" model). The full base configuration list is below, and all four are available to order and customize today.
