Apple Starts Selling Refurbished iPad Mini Tablets

Apple is quick to point out that the iPad mini is the least expensive iPad it's ever carried, and while that's true, it's still comparatively expensive when going up against competing slates that are similar in size. The iPad mini starts at $329, versus $200 for a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD. Even the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" costs $60 less than the iPad mini, and if you want a tablet that's even larger, the 10.1-inch MeMO Pad from Asus runs $300.

Of course, none of those device run iOS, and if you're already heavily invested into Apple' ecosystem, there's some obvious value in sticking with your platform. The iPad mini is also remarkably thin and light while retaining its premium polish. So, if you're in the market for an iPad mini but on the hunt for a deal, check out Apple's new selection of refurbished units.

As it stands, the only model that's currently available is the 16GB iPad mini with Wi-Fi + Cellular for Verizon in black. In refurbished trim, it's selling for $429, which is $30 less than retail (a 6 percent savings). That's not exactly a significant price break, but it's about the cheapest you'll find, and it comes straight from Apple. It's worth noting that even though it's refurbished, it's like getting a brand new device. It comes with a fresh new battery and outer shell, and all the retail trimmings, including a 1-year warranty.

Not digging this particular model? Well, now that the iPad mini has been on the market for awhile, it stands to reason that other models will soon be offered up in Apple's refurbished section, so keep your eyes peeled.
