Apple Boot Camp

Although we don't usually talk about Apple here at Hot Hardware, there is a stunning new development with Mac systems today that certainly warrants our attention. Apple has officially released a public beta of a new piece of software called "Boot Camp" which will allow all Intel-based Macs to seamlessly dual-boot with Windows XP and Windows Vista. Although some homebrewed software allows people to dual-boot, Apple's official attempt does not require any hacking or accomodations for the Mac's EFI. You just install the Boot Camp software and everything just works. So what does this all mean? You can finally consider a Mac as a viable gaming platform and can have the strength of OS X with the gaming flexibility of Windows!

Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.
