Acer Announces Iconia W510 Tablet with Windows 8, Up to 18 Hours Battery Life

The incredibly fast growing Windows 8 market just got a little bit bigger today with the unveiling of Acer's Iconia W510 tablet PC. Billed as a "triple threat convertible," the W510 can be used in three different ways: as a full-fledged notebook, conventional tablet PC, or a presentation device when rotating the keyboard dock to function as a stand.

Let's talk a moment about the hardware. The Iconia W510 features a 10.1-inch HD (1366x768) LED-backlit display with Gorilla Glass 2. It's powered by an Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of solid state storage.

Lightweight and thin at 1.27 pounds and 0.35 inches, the Iconia W510 maintains its slim profile even with the keyboard dock attached, which increases the weight and thickness to 2.63 pounds and 0.84 inches, respectively. The dock also houses a second battery, effectively doubling battery life up to 18 hours.

"Customers will enjoy optimized experiences for touch, typing and viewing on the Iconia W510 tablet PC," said Sumit Agnihotry, vice president of product marketing for Acer. "The versatility of the new tablet PC and durability of the Gorilla Glass 2 display pairs beautifully with the responsive performance to take advantage of the capabilities of Windows 8 for a first-rate tablet PC experience."

Rounding out the list of features are front- (2MP) and rear-facing (8MP) cameras, Dolby Home Theater v4 technology, microSD card reader, microUSB and full-size USB ports, micro HDMI, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and of course Windows 8.

Pricing for just the tablet starts at $500 (32GB); with a 64GB SSD and keyboard dock, the MSRP jumps to $750. All W510 models will be available starting November 9.
