MacBook Air Takes Flight $200 Lighter at Best Buy

For one day only (today), Best Buy is selling a brand new Apple MacBook Air (model MD223LL/A) for $800 shipped, plus any applicable sales tax. That's a $200 price break, and just so this point is clear, it's not a refurbished item. Deals like this on Apple products on relatively few and far between, so if you've been eying this model for whatever reason, now is your chance to pounce.

This is the newest version of the MacBook Air. It has an 11.6-inch display with a 1366x768 resolution, Intel Core i5 dual-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 4GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM, 64GB flash storage, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 720p FaceTime HD camera, mini DisplayPort output, HDMI output, two USB 3.0 ports, SD card slot, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, backlit keyboard, and other amenities.

It's also on sale at Amazon for $900 and free 2-day shipping with a Prime account, though it's still cheaper at Best Buy, even after factoring in sales tax.

Whether or not it's a great buy depends on how badly you want to roll with Apple. At $800 and only 11.6 inches, it's still pricey, especially compared to Windows 8-based Ultrabooks. For $450, Best Buy sells an Asus 11.6-inch Ultrabook with a touchscreen display. It's rocking a hard drive (500GB) and slower processor (Core i3), but it's nearly 50 percent less expensive.

It's all food for the thought if you're shopping an ultra-thin laptop.
