Amazon’s New Kindle Fire HD Seen in Benchmark Leak, 2560X1600 Display and Quad-Core Snapdragon
We're all pretty much assuming Amazon has another Kindle Fire HD refresh up its sleeve, as it would be foolish to abandon what's become a highly successful product line and a significant driver of the e-tailer's online content. That said, there hasn't been an official announcement of an upcoming upgrade just yet, though in its absence, a new model Kindle Fire HD poked its head into a benchmark run on GFXBench.
The leaked benchmark reveals some interesting specs, starting with a 2560x1600 resolution. That may indicate it was the 8.9-inch version that was tested, which would be an upgrade over the current version's 1920x1200 display. Amazon's 7-inch Kindle Fire HD currently features a 1280x800 resolution, and while it's not out of the realm of possibility that it's getting a major bump to 2560x1600, it's unlikely.
Also of interest is the processor. According to the benchmark specs, the new model Kindle Fire HD will come equipped with an Adreno 330 GPU. The only SoC that boasts an Andreno 330 GPU is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 platform, a quad-core part with plenty of pep.
