Acer Starts Shipping V Nitro Black Edition Laptops In North America

Acer on Tuesday announced that its V Nitro Black Edition series of high-performance laptops built around Intel's Haswell platform is now available in North America. These notebooks purportedly offer workstation-class capabilities, though when it comes time to play, the inclusion of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M will happily get you gaming.

"Acer Aspire V Nitro Black Edition notebooks are ideally suited for people who use the same system in their professional and personal lives," said Eric Ackerson, senior product marketing and brand manager. "V Nitro's upscale modern design doesn't look out of place at the office, and its features make it perfect for home entertainment needs, whether it's used for watching movies or playing demanding graphics intensive games after work hours."

The new notebooks include three different models with two screen sizes -- 15.6-inch (V 15 Nitro) and 17.3-inch (V 17 Nitro) Full HD 1080p displays. The least expensive of the bunch is the V 15 VN7-591G-74LK. It will be available at Newegg in mid-October for $1,099.99 and includes an Intel Core i7 4710HQ processor, the aforementioned GTX 860M GPU, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 1TB hard drive, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, GbE LAN, headphone/speaker/line-out jack, Kensington lock slot, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, SD card slot, HD webcam, full-size keyboard with backlight, and Windows 8.1.

Amazon will sell the other 15.6-inch model (V 15 VN7-591G-7552) for $1,199.99 starting in November with the same configuration except that it will also come with a 128GB solid state drive for the OS, pushing the 1TB drive aside for storage chores.

Finally, the sole 17.3-inch model (V 17 VN7-791G-71P5)  will be available in November for $1,499.99 from Amazon, Fry's, and MicroCenter. It has the same general foundation as the other two models, but with double the RAM (16GB), double the SSD capacity (256GB), the addition of a 6X Blu-ray drive, and two USB 2.0 ports to go along with two USB 3.0 ports.
