OCZ Technology is at the ready with yet another new Solid State Drive, built around the company’s tried-and-true Barefoot 3 controller. The Vector 180 series drive we’ll be showing you here today is packing some of Toshiba’s latest A19nm MLC NAND flash memory and has some welcomed features and additions normally reserved for more expensive, enterprise-class drives. And the Vector 180 isn’t the only thing OCZ has in store today. Launching alongside this new SSD is a brand new utility, dubbed OCZ Guru, geared for easy management and tuning of OCZ’s enthusiast-class drives. The OCZ Guru utility will... Read more...
If you’re in Hannover, Germany next week for the CeBit conference, pop on over to OCZ’s booth and sign up to be a beta tester for the company’s new ZD-XL SQL Accelerator, a combination hardware and software tool that allows database administrators to optimally manage data cached to SSD storage. OCZ is actively looking for beta testers who are willing to operate under NDA, so get in line to sample the good stuff. The ZD-XL SQL Accelerator isn’t the only enterprise product OCZ brought along to show off, though. There’s also VXL 1.3 Virtualization Software and LXL Acceleration... Read more...
If you're a performance junkie, investing in a solid state drive (SSD) is a no-brainer at this point, especially with the way prices have fallen this past year. Narrowing down which SSD to purchase, well, that's another story. To help make the decision a little easier, OCZ for a limited time is offering a free Far Cry 3 download with new and existing purchases of the Vector 256GB and 512GB SSD (limit two per person). That's right, this promotion extends to current owners as well, so no need to kick yourself if you already purchased a qualifying Vector SSD. Whether you're a new or existing customer,... OCZ used the Consumer Electronics Show to unveil their latest high-end solid state drive, the Vector PCI Express. As its name suggests, the Vector PCI Express leverages the same in-house developed Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller technology used in OCZ’s excellent Vector SATA III SSD (reviewed here), but the new drive attaches to a system via PCI Express. We posted news of OCZ’s initial announcement here, but have since been able to check it out in person and witness a few benchmark runs.   A quick visual inspection of the OCZ Vector PCI Express reveals a pair of Barefoot 3 controllers... OCZ is planning to showcase several storage products this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and among them is a pre-production version of its new flagship Vector SSD Series for PCI Express (PCIe) interfaces. Armed with an Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller and the above mentioned PCIe interface, the latest Vector SSDs will offer improved input/output operations per second (IOPS) burst performance and superior real-world sustained performance compared to the SATA-based version. It doesn't matter if the data is compressed or uncompressed, OCZ claims the PCIe-based Vector SSD Series... Read more...
OCZ has been carpet-bombing the solid state storage market for years now. It seemed that every time a new controller technology emerged, OCZ was at the ready with a fresh batch of products and over time built a portfolio that targeted virtually every market segment. Consumer-class solid state storage is in an interesting phase right now, though. There was a time when there were only a couple of controllers on the market that allowed OEMs to produce drives capable of effectively saturating the SATA interface, while also offering strong all-around performance. That’s part of the reason everyone... Read more...

OCZ Technology Group today announced a new solid state drive line capable of up to 100,000 IOPS of random read performance. Powering the company's new Vector SSD Series is a next-generation Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller with firmware that was developed completely in-house, OCZ says. "The development of the Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller architecture is a crowning achievement in our company’s history, being our first controller silicon and firmware completely designed in-house from start to finish using all of the OCZ technology development teams," said Ralph Schmitt, CEO for OCZ Technology.... Security firms have issued fresh warnings against malicious trojans in the wake of Osama bin Laden's death and the wedding of England's Prince William. Malware authors have already seized on both events as bait for their own malware hooks and are using the promise of unseen photos/video to snare the unwary. This type of attack and the speed with which it's organized have become commonplace in recent years—when the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, was assassinated, trojans baited with information regarding her appeared within 24 hours. Since then, hurricanes, elections, and... Read more...
